TELL ME WHY

Why are policemen called “cops” or “coppers”? The practice started in America, and there are two theories as to how these names came about. Some say that the name “copper” stuck because New York policemen used to wear an 8-pointed copper star on their uniforms. Other people say that “cop” came from the first letters of the description of the policemen — “Constable On Patrol”.
