Jindal plant

Salboni, Oct. 18: Chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee will open the Jindal steel plant at Salboni, West Midnapore, on November 2.

The Prime Minister was supposed to inaugurate the plant. “But because of his busy schedule, he is not available,” a Jindal official said.

Rizwan case

Calcutta: Sayed Mauddin alias Pappu, one of the accused in the Rizwanur Rahman case, has moved an anticipatory bail plea. But a fast-track court has said it will be heard after the judge goes through the case records on October 24.

Thief lynched

Burdwan: About 200 people lynched a robber and thrashed five others of his gang when they tried to loot a truck driver at Goda bypass, around 100km from Calcutta. Police said the villagers chased the six who jumped into a pond. The people followed and beat the robbers with sticks. Ranjit Mondal, a member of the gang, died.
