Role model
Rashbehari Das

Modelling happened to me quite by accident. Someone associated with the Femina Miss India pageant suggested that I take part in the contest. At that time I was studying biotechnology in Mumbai, and modelling as a career option was not on my radar.

But when I got the chance to participate in the Miss India contest I decided to give it a shot. I went for the contest with a very casual attitude but things turned out in my favour and I was crowned Femina Miss India Universe 2008.

This was a major turning point in my life and everything changed for me after I won the crown. Not only did this give me a career, but also brought about positive changes in me. I am a different person today — all grown up, stable and with a positive approach to life.

What’s more, my lifestyle has also taken a U-turn. I am now a full-time model and it sure feels good to be working so hard. So far I have walked the ramp for designers like Hemant Trivedi, JJ Valaya and Tarun Tahiliani at the recent fashion weeks. I have showcased Satya Paul’s winter collection in Hyderabad, Lucknow, Indore and will be travelling to other cities in the near future. I have also done Satya Paul shows in the US.

Films are not on my list of priorities at the moment though I have received a few offers. I would like to wait for the right script. I do not believe in making future plans. I live in the present and take each day as it comes.
